This is the second in the series of CD covers that David designed and illustrated for Sony Music. As you can see the format and look from the Hip Hop CD cover has carried through to the Cool Jazz CD cover. This time the illustration portrays images of Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins, both are absolute legends of Cool Jazz. Again, good photo reference was used for this illustration. The light-weight, sans-serif lead-in text at the top of the CD cover is called "Gotham Book". It has a nice balance with the larger "Cool Jazz" text below it, which is a combination of a bold, sans-serif called "Impact Regular" and a lighter weight serif font called "Bodini Roman", creating an interesting contrast and tension between the two words. Colour is used to further temper the contrast between the word "Cool" and "Jazz". The colours, contrasting text and high-contrast illustrations all serve to ensure that the Sony Music CD covers get noticed on the shelf.
